12. Passion Flower

The Passion Flower is also known as the Clock Flower because of the dark clock like "hands" in the center of the flower. There are about 500 different species of the Passiflora, with most of them having a unique structure like the one shown above.
The Passion Flower is rather difficult to pollinate and requires a rather large bee to transfer the pollen. Some of the less unusual flowers of the Passiflora family are easier to pollinate and this can be done by smaller bees, hummingbirds, and even bats. Some species of the Passion Flower are even self-pollenating.
Species of the Passiflora is found all over the world, except Antarctica. Though not originally native to Europe, species of the Passiflora can now be found growing wild there.
One species of the Passiflora, the Passiflora Edulis, is actually the flowering Passion Fruit.
Some species of Passiflora is cold tolerant whose roots can withstand temperatures as low as -20° C.

11. Gazania
These plants bring cheer and color to the garden. These flowers are striped or spotted in contrasting colors. The leaves are silvery and long. They love the sun and thrive in well drained soil. These plants are hardy and can tolerate droughts. Buy young plants from the nurseries and plant them in your garden or in pots. You could also grow them from seeds, but this takes care and time. A light soil topped with mulch and light fertilizer is all it needs to keep flowering. Remove the dead leaves from the sides to keep the plant healthy and flower more abundantly. They need very little watering and can be propagated by division of established plants. Gazanias are perennials. The flowers, though dramatically beautiful, cannot be used as cut flowers as they close at night. These are suitable for growing in containers and sunny window sills.

10. Plumeria

The plumeria blossom is special because its intoxicating fragrance varies from tree to tree. Plumeria trees are easy to grow and will display blossoms that vary in color from bright fuchsia to white. My personal favorite is the peach-orange variety. Although plumeria blossoms are beautiful to behold, be careful when handling them. The plumeria tree produces a milky sap that oozes out when a branch, pod, or flower is broken off. Contact with this glue-like sap will irritate the eyes and skin

9. Chrysanthemum
Why is chrysanthemum so popular?
One reason is that the blooms last so long when cut, another that it keeps the garden almost to year’s end. The real chrysanthemum fan likes it because it is under his control right from babyhood to maturity. A cycle of little attentions needed month by month through the whole year makes chrysanthemum culture a satisfying hobby.
There are many annual and perennial species (they include marguerite, pyrethrum, and oye oye daisy), but we are concerned here with Japanese chrysanthemum which has been so intensively developed to its present state of perfection.
Early flowering chrysanthemums make brilliant display from August to November and deserve a prominent position. The range of colors gives a variety of interest. Nearby borders against a wall can be developed entirely to outdoor chrysanthemums, and they will also be most effective if grown against a background of climbing shrubs. All varieties are suitable for cutting and decorative purposes, but the grower should aim for flowers of perfect form and good color, with long straight stems, and good lasting qualities when cut.
The modern chrysanthemum catalogue is almost overwhelming with its array of choice varieties, so that the beginner hardly knows where to start.

8. Dahlia
Very few garden plants can compare with a dahlia if you pick the right varieties. There are so many shapes, colors and sizes, that they will please and delight anyone that loves variety and color in their flower garden.
What's great about Dahlias, is they not only look fantastic in a garden, but some can be grown in containers, and who doesn't know the beautiful cut flower displays they make.
Of course most the time you see those flowers floating in water, they are also dahlias, so the uses are almost endless for them.
Another great advantage of having dahlias, is they're very low maintainence, and even most lazy gardener can include them and they'll look good and survive without much attention

 7. Orchids
Orchids are beautiful and colourful flowers that are easy to care for once you have found the most suitable environment for them – preferably on a sunny windowsill.
The Phalaenopsis (also called Moth orchid) is an orchid genus of approximately 60 orchid species and is one of the most popular type of all without any doubt.
It is originally native in the mountains of the Himalaya, southeast Asia, northern parts of Australia and the Philippines, but nowadays you can simply buy any of these flowers even in a shopping centre or a florist as well.
The orchid usually has only a few leaves that grow from a single stem. When one of the leaves start to wither, the plant usually starts to grow a new one immediately after that. Between the leaves grows the flower stem that can have more than 10 flowers on it when it is blooming. If the orchid is kept properly, the flowers can last for even up to 5-6 months.

6. Tulip
The Tulip plant comes from the plant family called Liliaceae. Like all plants in this family, the tulip has physical characteristics that make it unique and distinguishes it from other plant families. The tulip has six petals, six stamens, one pistil, three stigmas and three pods or berries.
The petal of a tulip flower is a part of the perianth. The perianth is the outer part that encloses the flower. It is made up of a calyx or a corolla. The corolla is made up of petals. The calyx encloses the corolla or petals at its base. The calyx is made up of sepals. If both the calyx and corolla are combined into one unit, the individual parts are referred to as tepals.
The Stamen is the male reproductive organ of a flowering plant. The stamen is broad and flat. Each stamen is composed of a slender object called a filament and is attached to an anther, which is thicker and looks like two hot dogs stuck together. The stigma is three-lobed and fuzzy, so that it can catch pollen that is released by the stamen.
The female part of the tulip is the pistil. The tulip has one pistil. The pistil is centrally located and consists of a swollen base, an ovary, a stalk and a receptive tip. The ovary looks like a small cucumber. A pistil is constructed from a carpel, a leaf-like structure. A single pistil is composed of several fused carpels that bear seeds.
In the tulip, the stigma is easy to locate. The stigma located in the center of the flower. It is the area where the pollen is received. It is attached to the style, a stalk-like structure. The stigma is covered with a sticky substance that catches the pollen and has a damp and furry appearance. The stigma transports pollen to the ovum for fertilization.

5. Water lilies
The lovely white water lily,Nymphaea odorata, is a perennial aquatic plant which grows from a rhizome much the same way a spring flower grows from a bulb. The hardy water lily is native to North America. The thick glossy leaves which float on the water's surface can measure nearly a foot across, each with a slit that gives them a heart-shape appearance. The leaves form at the ends of thick, ropy stalks as do each individual flower buds. When fully bloomed, the blossoms are pure white perfection with golden stamens. They open each morning with the sun, attracting dragonflies, damselflies, and whirligig beetles which help to pollinate them. By late afternoon, the flowers will close up for a night of rest.

4. Magnolia
Few things are as beautiful as a magnolia tree in full bloom! Named after Pierre Mangol, a popular botanist, Mongolia boasts of over 200 species.  The magnolia flowers come in pink, purple or white and the size can be anywhere between 3 to 12 inch in diameter. This flower is a symbol of beauty, sweetness and femininity. Genus of magnolia can be found in West Indies, southeast as well as east Asia, central America, North America among other places.
A great choice for southern gardeners is the popular Little Gem Magnolia tree. This evergreen tree, unlike the Southern Magnolia, does not grow more the 25 feet. It has a conical shape tall and narrow so it doesn’t take a lot of room in your garden. It bears the same large fragrant white flowers as the big varieties in the spring and summer.

3. Calla Lily
Why do Brides choose Calla lilies most often for their wedding flowers? Only the Bride herself can tell you precisely why it was the most favored choice for her, but it isn't hard to see numerous reasons that make Calla lilies the number one wedding flower choice.
If you are thinking of featuring Calla lilies in your wedding, here are decor and flower ideas to give you a head start. Make your wedding flower selection a happy part of the best day in your life.

2. Bird of paradise
These beautiful tropical plants are native to South Africa. There are five species of the Bird of Paradise. One of its close relatives is a banana tree. These plants can bring beauty to any landscape as well as any house or indoor place. If you do not live in a tropical region they are easy to grow indoors as a potted plant.
It generally takes about three or four years before a White Bird of Paradise begins to bloom and produce flowers. They bloom in the late winter to the mid spring with beautiful blue white flowers. When the plant is about two to three feet tall and the roots begin to be crowded in the pot that is when you can expect to see flowers start appearing. Although they are slow growers it is so worth the wait. The smallest they grow is ten feet but they can get as high as 20 feet tall.

1. Rose
Lovers of the beautiful and fragrant rose flower are spread worldwide. Without a rose plant, a garden often, looks incomplete. Who doesn't like a garden full of colored roses and their intoxicating fragrance? I bet there aren't many who can resist a rose.

Though there are many varieties of roses not much by the way of maintenance is needed to grow them and enjoy their beauty. The only requirement is space, sunlight and water.
To start, we will look at the different rose varieties available.
Oh yes, most “top most beautiful flowers” lists out there reserve the number one spot for this one. This pretty, sweet smelling flower has all what it takes to be the prettiest flower in the world. It would not be wrong to say that rose is a synonym with beauty and love. This woody perennial shrub belongs to the genus ‘Rosa’. Roses are found almost everywhere on earth. This beautiful flower comes in a variety of color and each color holds a different meaning, for examples red rose is a symbol of love while a yellow rose stands for friendship. From poets to artists, rose has been a source of inspiration for people for centuries!

What Do all the Different Colors of Roses Mean?

Have you ever wondered what all the differ rent colors o f roses actually mean? The meaning of each flower shading can really determine and influence what is appropriate to gift for a particular occasion. Flowers, and these ones especially, are a way to express how you feel when words are not really enough or adequate either.
For instance, you may love someone but are unsure of what the feelings back may be - so instead of a potential embarrassment, you can present a red rose instead. Of course, they are not all about love and they actually have a language of their own that applies to many different situations in life

What do Red Roses Symbolize?
This is a shade that you so often see in bouquets of flowers - red. It's the most common color which is gifted. Although it is common, it is often presented with little thought to what the shade symbolizes. People tend to buy and use red roses for almost any occasion. However, there are times when it really and truly might not be appropriate at all. It is really important to learn what the colors of roses signify before you give them out as a gift.
Symbolism of Red
The most common meaning for a red rose is one of love, passion and romance. So if you want to show a desire or longing to win (or keep) someone's heart, then red roses are just the thing. It is also used to encourage the recipient or show that you care for the recipient.
Symbolism of Dark Red
Darker and deep hued varieties like maroon and burgundy really indicate and express the very deepest love, a love that has endured much time. And they also symbolize deep beauty too. Dark red is ideal for a longer term relationship or partnership of love that is long established.
What do WHITE Roses Mean?
This is a color that symbolizes peace and tranquility. White rose flowers are often used for bridal bouquets and at weddings because as well as peace, they are symbolic of a happy love and a long lasting love too. It should be a number one choice for an appropriate wedding flower where a couple in love are declaring their pure and unadulterated feelings for one another.
Of course this virginal shade also conveys innocence and purity. Because of this, you can see them used in churches and not just for weddings. They're both angelic and spiritual and perfect for religious events and celebrations such as communions and christenings as well as wedding vows. Normally associated with happy occasions, they can also be used to express sympathy too because of the peace meaning and the fact that you are wishing someone peace during a time of sorrow.

What do Orange Roses Represent?
Orange roses are a favorite shade that I enjoy looking at - a beautiful and warm sunshine color. But what does thois orange hue really mean because it is one that is less common than the typical red, whites, pinks and yellows. So if you don't already know what it stands for, that is a reason why.
Orange roses can also be given to show fascination or curiosity. These could be given to a person you are fascinated by. It is a color that expresses quite fiery emotions such as passion, enthusiasm, lust and desire. Orange is a shade which has quite strong emotions attached which is why they are ideal to gift to someone you are head over heels in love with or someone you really desire very strongly. So do take care when offering this choice of shade because of the definite meanings attached.

What is the Meaning of Yellow Roses?
This is the color of friendship. It is a wonderful flower to symbolize a warmth between you and the recipient but a platonic warmth and nothing more than that. Ideal for someone you care about but do not love in a romantic sense. This color exudes happiness and all positive emotions and feelings. It can symbolize a joyous friendship - one in which you delight.
Be very careful about presenting any yellow roses tinged with red tips on the petals because this means that friendship is escalating into something more such as love. This is why this particular and unique shading is referred to as a transition rose since one feeling is changing into another. Perfect if you have fallen in love with a friend otherwise you might be giving the wrong signal to someone!

What do Green Roses Symbolize?
This color is very unusual so I wonder if you have any idea of what it stands for? You'd think that this shade is artificial but they can appear naturally although they're rare. Green is a color of growth and life so it symbolizes nature and also fertility. As well as that, this color represents tranquility and relaxation. It's a highly positive shade overall and significant of natural and good things.
Since they will be hard to come by whether natural or artificially dyed, they are best used for quite a special occasion where the rareness will be all the more appreciated. Since they represent newness and growth, they are perfect to gift for new jobs, new homes, new start, marriage, emigrating abroad, start of retirement and a different phase of life even. Green is a shade associated with health so it's also ideal to give green roses to someone who has suffered with a bad illness to wish them well and good health in the future.

What do Blue Rose Flowers Represent?
Have you ever heard of a blue rose or even been lucky enough to have seen one? This is not a natural shade for this flower at all so they have to be genetically engineered to create this color or dyed instead. So you might find them very hard to get hold of in order to give them to someone.
And that leads us on the meaning because they actually are symbolic of rarity as well as mystery. They are the perfect offering to someone who you perceive as being virtually impossible to get - someone out of your league perhaps. It's a bit of a show-off color and makes a bit of a statement about yourself if you use these as décor in your home. It really does not have the most romantic or nicest of meanings. It's a flower for a very big ego.

What do PURPLE Roses Signify?
Purple is a nice shade to give or receive for a loving and romantic attachment. Being given these is a pretty good sign since purple or lavender shades often are taken to mean love at first sight. It's entirely romantic and sentimental too.
As well as expressing love at first sight, to give or receive this color also has the meaning of wanting a relationship to blossom and grow. You want a relationship to move on and go further. You're looking for a more meaningful love.
Another similar meaning is one of enchantment and this goes along with the love at first sight meaning. You feel like you have been entranced and therefore these very much convey a very magical, special and romantic love. Ideal for a new and very meaningful love.

What do PINK Roses Mean?
The Meaning of both Light and Dark Pink Shades
There are so very many shades of the pink rose which include a vivid cerise pink, fuchsia and magenta which is more of a purple hued pink and then much paler pinks including blush, rose and salmon shades. What you really need to know is that there is a different meaning applied to the lighter color variations to the dark ones. However, in general, pink is for giving thanks and joy and are most appropriate as a thank you bouquet.

Symbolism of Dark Pink
Dark pink shades are most often used to express your thankfulness, gratitude and appreciation. For example, if someone does something very nice or special for you then it would be right to send them roses in a dark pink shade.
Symbolism of Light Pink
Light pink shades are better for passing on your sincere congratulations. Pale hues are also good for any type of celebration, occasion or a happy get together with a friend. If you are having guests to stay or come for dinner, they are ideal to use in a vase as room décor as a way to express your happiness at their arrival.

What does a Black Rose Stand for?
Black roses are a type of rose that you have to be extremely careful in giving. They probably have the most potential to cause a misunderstanding if given to the wrong person.
This color is symbolic of death and depression as well as with loss of hope. It is associated with both sadness and melancholy. If you gift this to someone, you are expressing black thoughts such as wanting life to leave the recipient or from yourself because you are unhappy and have given up. It's the shade of sorrow and can also stand for someone leaving your life - a farewell flower you might say.
You wouldn't normally choose to gift a black rose to anyone. Perhaps they are best suited as a design statement in a modern home. As a bouquet, they are less desirable. Perfect for divorce celebrations! I hope you've enjoyed reading my hub today, thanks for your visit
